McPhail's Cycle & Sports has been serving the Kitchener/Waterloo area since 1916. The present owners are Gary & Debbie Bonneville. Although Gary & Debbie are McPhail's' third owners, the business has passed from owner to owner much like a family business would.
Stu McPhail started the shop in 1916 and Roy & Margaret Marks purchased the shop in 1965. The Marks had worked for Stu for a number of years before he bought the store. Gary started working for Roy in 1972 and bought the business in 1989.
The tradition of long-time employees continues today. Our employees usually start working for us at an early age and stay right through high school and university. The staff at McPhail's are all experienced cyclists. Their expertise will assist you in finding the bike that's perfect for your needs. The range of bikes are from mid-priced lines by Raleigh to premium lines for the serious cyclist, including Kona, Specialized, and Opus. In addition to the bikes, McPhail's also sells all parts and accessories. Helmets have been the biggest accessory in the last 21 years. We sell baby trailers so that the whole family can enjoy cycling, they even convert to joggers. We make it easier for families to get those new bikes year after year with our bike trade program.
As a sponsor for the Waterloo cycling club, the shop has become very popular with the area's top cyclists. Some of the staff at McPhail's compete professionally and do very well! Regular maintenance is extremely important to keep your bike in top form. Have your bike looked at professionally at least once a year. Also, you should check your bike throughout the season for problems like loose bolts, fraying cable & parts that need oiling.
Hockey equipment makes up McPhail's other line of merchandise. Everything to play the game from equipment to sticks and more. One of our main line of skates are Graf skates, these skates are custom fit right at the store. Just like our bikes, we have a used skate department. We have one of the best selections in this area for used skates. You may trade your old skates in towards the purchase of another pair. All the used skates are refurbished and the savings are great at about half the price of a new pair.
